HISTORY

The Temasek Wind Ensemble (TWE) is one of the school’s long standing CCAs. Under the direction of the Band Director, Mr Ong Yeow Tong, an alumnus of TMS, the school band has played to full house concerts. Currently, the Temasek Wind Ensemble is close to 80 members strong.

MISSION

A conductor leads a youth school band in blue uniforms playing flutes, clarinets, and brass on a concert stage.

To strive for members to uphold a common goal of mastering a musical instrument and demonstrate artistry through music.

TRAINING

Young students in black uniforms sit in chairs playing French horns and brass instruments in a rehearsal setting.

Training is held twice a week with additional sessions conducted nearer to competitions and performances. The TWE also participates in music exchanges and attends workshops. Apart from learning to play a musical instrument, members are also trained in musicianship in which they learn to listen and play effectively as an ensemble. Members who exhibit strong musicianship will also get to lead their own sections or take on the role of student conductor. 

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Perform in outdoor public concerts, and school productions such as Three Beats In A Bar, the annual Practice Room and the Secondary One showcase: Studio Session.

  • Participate in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation.
