Mobile Phone Policy
Keep your phone stored away during school hours (7.55am to 5pm). Repeated offences may lead to detention or suspension.
The school reserves the right to confiscate students’ mobile phones as a disciplinary measure if they contravene the school’s mobile phone regulations or for the purpose of investigation.
When a mobile phone is to be confiscated, the school will notify the parent/guardian.
The school mobile phone regulations are stated below:
Students are not to use smartphones / smartwatches DURING SCHOOL HOURS including recess, CCA and after-school programmes (e.g. supplementary / enrichment / remedial lessons)
School hours are defined as 7:55am to 5pm.
Smartwatches that have communicative capabilities are NOT ALLOWED in school. Students are not to bring smartwatches (for security reasons).
Expectations
All students to lock their phones IN THEIR OWN lockers by 7:55am (T1W2)
Phones MUST NOT be seen DURING SCHOOL HOURS (7:55am to 5pm)
Fundamentally are to use PLDs for Teaching and Learning Students SHOULD NOT bring their smartwatches to school If there is a need for communication between you and your parent/guardian, it should be done through the GO.
Mobile phones are to be switched off and kept out of sight (in student lockers) during curriculum time.
Mobile phones MUST NOT be seen during lesson times (at the teachers’ discretion). Students should not be using their phones during CCA times (at the teachers’ discretion).
Mobile phones are not allowed to be used for entertainment or recreational reasons in school (e.g. watching videos, playing games, listening to music, using social media etc) during curriculum time.
If mobile phones need to be used for official/educational reasons, specific instructions will be given by the teacher/s to switch on the device for the activity and to switch off the device at the end.
Consequences
Whenever teachers see students with their phones with them between 7.55am and 5.00pm, teachers can and will TAKE THEM AWAY.
Mobile phones will be handed to the DM.
Student’s whose phone is confiscated is to report to the GO after school on that day and request to see the DM (for further action to be taken).
For 1st & 2nd Offence
Mobile phone will be taken and given to DM.
Student to go to GO to request to see DM after curriculum time for the day for phone to be returned.
For 3rd Offence
Mobile phone will be confiscated and given to DM.
Student to go to GO to request to see DM after curriculum time for the day for phone to be returned + 1 Hour Detention
For 4th Offence
Mobile phone will be confiscated and given to DM.
Student to go to GO to request to see DM after curriculum time for the day for phone to be returned + 2h Detention. Conduct grade will be lowered to GOOD.
For 5th Offence
Mobile phone will be confiscated and given to DM.
Student to go to GO to request to see DM after curriculum time for the day for phone to be returned +1 Day Internal Suspension. Conduct Grade lowered to Fair with corresponding consequences following (e.g. removal from student leadership).
If the school has reason to believe that a law has been violated, the school may report the case to the police for assistance and hand over the confiscated device should the police request for it for further investigation.
